Irish Soda Bread

The best Irish Soda Bread you have ever tasted. This wonderful traditional raisin bread is easy to make and is a pleasant treat for everyone on Saint Patrick's Day. The secret is the 2 kinds of raisins and the caraway seeds. Enjoy warm with butter and a cup of Irish coffee.


Ingredients:

    Bread:
      2 cups flour
      3 teaspoons of baking powder
      2 tablespoons sugar
      ½ teaspoon salt
      ½ teaspoon caraway seeds
      ½ cup of regular raisins
      ½ cup of white raisins

      1 egg
      ¼ stick melted margarine
      1 cup of milk

    Glaze:
      1 tablespoon of milk
      2 teaspoons of sugar

Preparation:

    1. Preheat oven to 350°.

    2. Mix all the dry ingredients together in one bowl.

    3. In a separate bowl mix the egg, melted margarine, and cup of milk, then add the mixture to the dry ingredients.

    4. Put the doe into a greased glass bowl (loaf pans will also work).

    5. Bake at 350° for 1 hour (2 small loaves for 45 min).

    6. Mix glaze ingredients and apply while hot.
