These meatballs are different than the traditional Italian style, the addition of barbecue sauce and sugar make them a little sweet and tangy. Don't let this unconventional ingredient list stop you, these are a wonderful little snack that taste good on a sandwich or just straight in a bowl, plus they make great football food.
Ingredients:
Meatballs:
1½ pound ground beef
1 egg
1 large onion chopped
½ cup bread crumbs
Sauce:
¼ cup red cooking wine
¼ cup ketchup
½ cup sugar
1 medium size bottle of BBQ sauce
1 large onion chopped
Preparation:
1. Meatballs:
- Mix all ingredients well and shape into balls
- Brown until cooked
2. Sauce:
- Mix all the sauce ingredients together
3. Cook:
- Put meatballs and sauce into large crock pot
- If using "low" crock stetting cook for no more than 5 hours
- If using "high" crock setting cook for no more than 2½ hours
